Thank you so much for considering me to capture the spirit of your animal companion. I have done pet portraits for all reasons -- celebration of life and comfort after loss, as a gift between loved ones for holidays and birthdays, or just the general "your animal is the best" and you want to acknowledge that! I have listed all of the details and FAQs about the process below, and if this sounds like the right fit for your pet portrait, please don't hesitate to get in touch to get the process started. I want to emphasize that these are hand painted and drawn, not created with digital tools or AI.
Details:
-
How does it work?: I work from photos, so initially you can send me an email with a photo (or photos!) attached and any details about the pet you may want to include, and then we can assess what kind of size and surface/backround you want. Most portraits I do are on wood panels or have salvaged paper backgrounds and I'm happy to give you example options. If you are having a hard time choosing between photos I'm happy to offer advice. Once I've finished to portrait I will send you a photo to check if it needs any tweaks or changes.
-
Timing: Most commissions take 1-2 weeks. If you need it sooner it may be possible, but depending on how busy I am there can be a small rush charge.
-
Payment & Fees: I try to keep my pricing reasonable, so I charge mostly by size and then complexity (ie: more than one pet in the portrait). Generally, I start as small as 5x7 which is $60, and I can go as big as you would like, into the hundreds of dollars. Most people stick with sizes around 8x10 (a little smaller than a piece of letter sized paper) up to 16x20 The price for portraits in this size range are normally from $85-$210. After we initially talk and I see the photo and size you are looking for, I can give a a specific price. You do not have to pay until the portrait is complete and you have given the OK that everything looks good.
-
Shipping: Shipping is available and can be priced into the initial quote if you know you will need it. If you end up needing shipping after the fact, I'll price it out separately. I try to use the most economical options there are :)
All of the same sustainable practices I uses for personal work I use for my commissions. This means that your piece is even more unique as I often don't get the same types of backgrounds twice and my paints are consistently freshly created or upcycled. And you can feel good about them being environmentally friendly! In regards to longevity, I do make sure to use paint binders and protective coatings that do not have issues with aging and help with UV exposure.
